Bandon Dunes, OR golf trip guide

The links purist's pilgrimage: five world-top walking-only courses on Pacific bluffs, caddies and push-carts only, phones-down camaraderie. A pure-buddies bucket-list trip — the remoteness is the whole point.

Pure buddies
Best seasons: Summer (Jun–Aug, best weather) · Late spring & early fall (shoulder value) · Year-round for the hardy

Three ways to play it

Same destination, three budgets. Ranges are typical per-person-per-day planning estimates covering lodging, a green fee, and fees — always verify current rates.

Splurge

per day

typical $500–$900+ (verify)

Where you'd stay

  • The Inn at Bandon Dunes / Grove & Chrome Lake Cottages — premium on-resort lodging steps from golf

Green-fee feel

highest; peak-season resort-guest green fees are premium (verify)

Courses to know

  • Pacific Dunes — Tom Doak, long rated among the best public courses in the US
  • Sheep Ranch — 2020 opening, a mile of ocean frontage over cliff-edge promontories

Balanced

per day

typical $350–$600 (verify)

Where you'd stay

  • Lily Pond — on-resort rooms connected by walking trail, a notch below the premium cottages
  • Shoulder-season resort packages (replay rates cut the per-round cost)

Green-fee feel

mid-upper; replay/second-round rates ease the sting (verify)

Courses to know

  • Bandon Dunes & Old Macdonald — the original bluff-top links and the big-greens tribute course
  • Bandon Trails — Coore & Crenshaw routing through dunes, meadow, and forest

Value

per day

typical $200–$400 (verify)

Where you'd stay

  • Off-resort hotels/rentals in the town of Bandon (~10 min)
  • Bandon Crossings — nearby non-resort course for a cheaper extra round

Green-fee feel

lowest; the short courses (Preserve, Shorty's) and shoulder-season play stretch the budget (verify)

Courses to know

  • Bandon Preserve — 13-hole Coore & Crenshaw par-3 course, proceeds to conservation
  • Shorty's — free-to-play short course for evening fun
Money note. Getting there IS the cost — it's genuinely remote. Walking-only with caddie/push-cart culture; budget caddie fees + gratuities. Replay rounds and short courses are the value; go in a shoulder window to cut green fees.

The pick groups miss

Dark-horse round

Sheep Ranch — the newest championship course and often the one groups underrate next to Pacific Dunes; and the Preserve par-3, the most fun-per-dollar round on the property.

Logistics

Getting there

Southwest Oregon Regional (OTH, North Bend) ~35 min with seasonal Denver/SF nonstops; otherwise fly Eugene (EUG) ~2.5 hr drive or Portland (PDX) longer. On-resort shuttles run 24/7 so you don't need the car once there.

Sell it at home

If people are coming along

A buddies trip rarely happens in a vacuum. Here's what the spouse and the kids get out of Bandon Dunes, ORwhile you're on the course — the pitch that gets the trip green-lit.

For a couples-along trip

  • Walks at Face Rock & the Bandon dunes/beach
  • Cranberry-country drives and coastal towns
  • (Be honest: remote — this is a golf-first place, not a spa resort)

More of a pure-buddies place

Bandon Dunes, ORleans golf-first — great for the crew, lighter on the family-vacation extras. If the family's coming, one of the family-friendly guides may fit better.

Golf's handled here.
